Drivers, bus passengers and residents are being advised to plan ahead this summer, as major gas network improvement works are set to disrupt Shooters Hill and surrounding roads.
Gas distribution company SGN is carrying out a programme of essential upgrades to its gas network to help ensure a safe and reliable supply for local homes and businesses. The work will take place in phases throughout the summer, with traffic management changing as the project progresses.
Motorists can expect temporary traffic lights, lane restrictions and road closures at various points along the route, with delays likely during busy periods. Local bus services may also be affected, and journey times through the area are expected to increase.
Residents living near the works should continue to have access to their properties, although there may be some temporary changes while engineering teams are on site.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is urging anyone travelling through Shooters Hill to allow extra time for their journey, consider alternative routes where possible, and check before travelling if using public transport.
The improvements form part of SGN's long-term investment programme to replace ageing gas mains with modern plastic pipework, helping to reduce the risk of leaks and improve the resilience of the local gas network for decades to come.
Road users can keep up to date with the latest traffic management arrangements and planned roadworks through the Royal Borough of Greenwich's street works register.
