Tube Strike Brings Major Disruption as Drivers Walk Out

London Underground

Londoners faced significant travel disruption today after Tube drivers walked out at midnight in a dispute over the introduction of a voluntary four‑day working week.

The 24‑hour strike has left large parts of the Underground network severely reduced, with no trains at all on some lines and part‑suspended or heavily delayed services on others. Transport for London (TfL) has warned that disruption will last throughout the day, urging passengers to check before travelling and expect longer journeys.

Commuters reported long queues at bus stops from the early morning, with many forced to take multiple buses to reach their workplaces. Some described journeys taking more than twice as long as usual.

Business owners in central London expressed concern about the impact on footfall. One café manager said they feared “there’s going to be no one in London,” adding that weekday trade had already been fragile.

While the Tube is heavily affected, other parts of the transport network are running. Buses, London Overground, the DLR and tram services are all operating normally. The Elizabeth Line is running a good service after recovering from earlier delays caused by a points failure.

TfL is providing live updates on its website for passengers needing real‑time information.

Today’s walkout is the first of two planned 24‑hour strikes, with a second set to take place on Thursday, raising the prospect of further disruption later in the week.
