Motorists and public transport users in east London are advised to plan ahead this weekend, as the Silvertown Tunnel will be closed to traffic to accommodate a major triathlon event.
The closures will be in place at the following times:
- Saturday 9 August – from 7:00am to 6:30pm
- Sunday 10 August – from 4:30am to 6:30pm
During these periods, traffic will be diverted via the Blackwall Tunnel. Additional signage will guide high-sided HGVs along suitable diversion routes.
Please note that Tunnel User Charges will still apply for vehicles using the Blackwall Tunnel while the Silvertown Tunnel is closed.
Public transport changes
- Silvertown Cycle Shuttle Service – suspended until the tunnel reopens each day.
- Bus routes SL4 and 129 – operating a split service on either side of the river.
- Route 108 – will continue to operate across the river. Passengers may also use the Jubilee line between North Greenwich and Canary Wharf or Canning Town to connect with SL4 or 129 services on the opposite bank.
Transport for London advises passengers to check their journeys before travelling by using the free TfL Go app.
