European Club Competition Fixtures

The Quarter Final stages of Europe's club competitions took place this week between the 9th and 11th of April in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. The Champions League games on Tuesday night bought arguably the most thrilling and entertaining games of the evening with Real Madrid and Manchester City producing the best game with an entertaining 3–3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. Arsenal came from behind to draw with German heavyweights Bayern Munich 2–2 with Arsenal's goals coming from Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard. The other two Champions League games which took place on Wednesday night saw Atletico Madrid narrowly defeat Borussia Dortmund 2–1 seeing them take a narrow lead into the second leg in Germany whilst Barcelona defeated French giants Paris Saint-Germain 3–2 away in France in another classic to take a narrow advantage back to Spain for the second leg. 

The Europa League clashes on Thursday night saw a shock result at Anfield as Liverpool fell to a surprising 0–3 home loss to Italian side Atalanta with former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca scoring twice for the visitors and Mario Pasalic netting the third goal for Atalanta. The other results from the Europa League this week saw Bayer Leverkusen retain their unbeaten run in all competitions for the season defeating West Ham United 2–0, AS Roma defeat fellow Italian side AC Milan 1–0 and Portuguese giants Benfica defeat French side Marseille 2–1. In the Conference League Aston Villa defeated French club Lille 2–1 at Villa Park with Aston Villa's goals coming from Ollie Watkins (25th goal of the season in all competitions) and John McGinn with Lille goal coming from Bafode Diakite, Belgian side Club Brugge defeated Greek club PAOK 1–0, Greek side Olympiakos defeated Turkish club Fenerbahce 3–2 and Czech side Viktoria Plzen drew 0–0 with Italian side Fiorentina. All the fixtures which took place this week in the Europa League and Conference League are due to be played again for the second leg fixtures next week to determine which sides will qualify for the semi-finals.
