Public Consultation Opens as Lidl Unveils Plans for New Foodstore and Homes on Eltham Hill

Lidl has unveiled plans for a new mixed-use development on Eltham Hill, proposing a modern foodstore, new homes with private green spaces, and community facilities to replace the Mecca Bingo site.

Supermarket chain Lidl GB has launched a public consultation ahead of submitting a planning application for a mixed-use development on Eltham Hill, replacing the site currently occupied by Mecca Bingo. The proposals include a new Lidl discount foodstore, a range of homes complete with private green space, and dedicated community space. According to Lidl, this would be in addition to the existing Eltham High Street store.

Community Consultation Event

Lidl invites local residents, businesses, and community groups to a consultation event on Wednesday 5 November 2025, 3:00pm to 6:30pm, at St Mary’s Eltham Community Centre, 180 Eltham High Street, SE9 1BJ.

At this event, the developer will present design proposals (including 3D visuals) and seek feedback from the community. The public is encouraged to share their views before a formal planning application is submitted.

Vision for the Site

Under the proposals:

• Mecca Bingo’s building would be demolished and replaced with a modern Lidl store, new homes, and space for community use.

• Homes would include features such as private green areas, contributing to local quality of life.

• The scheme aims to respect local context while improving access to affordable groceries and community amenities.
