Fake QR Codes appear at borough parking meters

Drivers in the Royal Borough of Greenwich have been urged to be vigilant, as fake QR codes have been spotted at parking meters.

QR codes allow users to quickly connect to various means of paying for parking and are quite common in car parks and on parking meters.

However, scammers are now taking advantage of these methods by creating their own QR codes, where users will be scammed into paying them instead of the genuine service.

In a statement on X, the local authority say they will be removing the fake QR codes as soon as possible

The council are reminding residents and visitors that they never use QR codes as a method of payment and if you see one to Report it by telephone on 0800 169 6975 or by email to fraud@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.
