Dartford man jailed for Blue Badge fraud in Greenwich

A man has been jailed after being caught twice using stolen and lost disabled parking permits to park illegally in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Ademola Akinkunmi, 32, of Heathcote Street, was sentenced at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 25 August to six months in prison. He admitted two counts of fraud by false representation and two counts of possessing an article for use in fraud. He was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

Akinkunmi was first stopped in June 2022 on College Approach, Greenwich, where he had displayed a Blue Badge that had been reported stolen. He was fined £195. In February 2024, he was caught again in Macbean Street, Woolwich, this time using a permit reported as lost. He appealed the penalty but later paid £65.

Council investigators interviewed him over both offences. He denied being the driver and said he did not know what had happened to the badges. Following a full investigation, charges were brought earlier this year.

Blue Badges allow people with severe mobility issues to park closer to shops, services, and their homes.
