Charlton Athletic Women edged Birmingham City Women 3-1 in a thrilling Women's Championship clash. A late wonder goal from Longhurst sealed the Addicks' victory in style.
At the start of British Summer Time, a crowd of over 900 people gathered at The Valley to watch Charlton Athletic Women play Birmingham City Women in a top-six clash in the Women's Championship. The crowd was boosted by a free admission offer to Men's Season Ticket holders.
A chilly afternoon saw a somewhat shaky start, but things warmed up in 24 minutes when Addicks striker Muya closed down the visitor's keeper to score with a tap-in. The hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of halftime with an own goal by a Blues defender from a right-wing corner.
With both teams tiring on the big pitch in the late second half, Quinn pulled one back for the visitors with a penalty kick on 79, then with five minutes stoppage time signalled, Addicks midfielder Kate Longhurst controlled a clearance from the Blues keeper to chip the ball home from 30 yards, a classy conclusion to the occasion.
Final score: Charlton Athletic Women 3, Birmingham City Women 1
