Bridge Parapet and Resurfacing Works – A206 Pettman Crescent

Major maintenance works are taking place on the A206 Pettman Crescent in West Thamesmead, affecting the Plumstead and Glyndon areas. The project involves replacing the bridge parapets, waterproofing, and resurfacing the road.

The works have been scheduled for the school summer holidays to minimise disruption, running from Monday 11 August to Friday 5 September 2025.

Traffic Management and Closures

• Lane closures will be in place on the A206 southbound at the junction of Western Way and Pettman Crescent.

• Alternative routes will be signposted for drivers heading towards Plumstead High Street and Woolwich.

• Temporary traffic lights will operate on Pettman Crescent to manage diversions.

• Full closure: Pettman Crescent will be completely closed at the junction with Plumstead High Street from 28 to 31 August. Diversions will maintain access to all routes.

Access will remain open for:

• Businesses

• Residents

Diversion Routes

Thamesmead to Woolwich:
Southbound traffic from Western Way will follow a signed diversion to Plumstead Road. Access to HMP Belmarsh will remain open.

Thamesmead to Plumstead High Street:
Due to lane closures, a signed exit will be in place at Western Way. Access to the trading estate will still be available.

Bus Service Changes

Several bus routes will be affected during the works, with diversions and stop closures in place.

Route 53 – towards Plumstead and Lambeth North

Starts at Plumstead Common, serving Woolwich Elizabeth Line Station. Will not stop at Plumstead Station or Maxey Road.

Route N53 – towards Plumstead or Whitehall

Running via Brewery Road and Raglan Road.

Routes 96, 99, 177, 180, 422, 469 and N1

Diverting via Griffin Road and Orchard Road. For Plumstead Station, use:

• Stop D (Plumstead Road / Lakedale Road)

• Stop T (Griffin Road / Conway Road)

Route 122 – towards Plumstead Bus Garage and Crystal Palace

Starts at Plumstead Road (Elizabeth Line Station). Last stop is Thomas Street.

Route 244 – towards Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Diverts back down to Belmarsh from Tom Cribb Road. Will not stop at Plumstead Station — use Plumstead Road and Maxey Road stops instead.

Route 301 – towards Bexleyheath and Woolwich

Will not stop at Nathan Way — use Western Way stop instead.

Route 380 – towards Lewisham

Will not stop at:

• Warepoint Drive

• Whinchat Road

• Goosander Way

• Broadwater Road

• Tom Cribb Road

Passengers should take Route 244 and change at Woolwich.
