The JustGiving page, set up in loving memory of Sophie Jennifer Powell, has raised an incredible £247,141 to date. Sophie bravely battled cancer for nearly two years before sadly passing away in January 2017 at the age of 11. Despite facing her own illness, Sophie remained deeply passionate about helping and supporting other poorly children, laying down a legacy of kindness that continues to touch countless lives.
Fulfilling a Dream on the Isle of Wight
Speaking on Maritime Radio, the organisers highlighted how public generosity has brought Sophie's final wishes to life. Thanks to the donations raised in her memory, The Chartwell Children's Cancer Trust (CCCT) successfully funded a dedicated holiday home on the Isle of Wight—a place Sophie deeply loved.
The holiday retreat gives children suffering from and battling cancer a vital space to escape, have fun, and make precious, lasting memories with their families during unimaginable difficulties. Funds raised also contribute to the ongoing upkeep of the home, as well as providing equipment and support services like a donated pool table for the local children's cancer ward.
Continuing the Legacy
The appeal recently saw an outpouring of support as family and friends marked what would have been Sophie’s 21st birthday, with heartfelt tributes and donations flooding the fundraising page.
The organisers are urging the community to keep the momentum going. Whether through a direct donation or simply sharing the cause, every contribution helps The Chartwell Children's Cancer Trust continue providing vital support services, medical staff training, and family support groups across local hospitals.
