Woolwich cosmetics shops fined more than £25,000

Two Woolwich shops have been fined more than £25,000  altogether for selling shampoos and cosmetics that aren’t approved for sale in Britain and may be potentially dangerous.

An investigation by Greenwich Council’s Trading Standards team led to the seizure of 616 products from Sabina Hair & Cosmetics and Rihana Cosmetics, which had been bought cheaply in America and shipped to the UK.

Council officers had repeatedly advised the shop-owners to stop selling the products. Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Enforcement, described the owners of both shops as “repeat offenders”.
