Weekly News Rundown Stories – Sunday 9th April 2023

Each week, Ben Hopkinson looks back at a serious, crazy, and happy news story from the past week.

Serious News

A duo of Just Stop Oil activists have been guilty over the protest that happened at the Dartford Crossing back in October last year.

Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker claim it was a peaceful protest, but have still been found guilty of causing a public nuisance, as it was closed for more than 24 hours.

They are due to be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court this Thursday. They have already spent more than five months in custody, but face a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Those impacted include a “heavily pregnant woman who needed urgent medical help”, a funeral for a best friend of 35 years, and a business lost more than £160,000 in earnings.

Crazy News

Chocolate Easter Eggs are the craze at this time of year, however Morrisons have released a cheddar cheese Easter Egg.

However, it is not a whole egg, as it is only a half-egg that costs £5 – but considering chocolate eggs are hollow, I’m not sure that makes too much difference.

Only time will tell whether Cheddar Easter Egg will catch on and replace the more traditional chocolate eggs going forward from next year.

Happy News

Westlife singer Nicky Byrne reached out to wish the band’s oldest fan a happy birthday.

Edna Warner who lives in Worcestershire recently turned 101 and claims to be their oldest fan. At her care home, to celebrate her birthday, they had a tea party themed on the band which secured 14 number one hits during their career.

During the call, Nicky asked Edna on advice for how to live a long and happy life like she has, and she answered: “Just behave yourself – and do as you’re told”.
