Two years in jail for uninsured driver who killed schoolboy

A man who killed an 11-year-old boy while driving without a licence has been jailed for two years. David Lockyer, 75, hit 11-year-old Josh Osborne in Orpington after leaving a pub, then tried to drive away and was pursued by another motorist. Josh died two days later.

Sentencing at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, Judge Jonathan Mann QC said that Lockyer had been breaking the 40 mph speed limit, attempted to leave the scene and when caught failed to provide a usable sample for a breathalizer. He added “…it is a reasonable inference that if you had not been drinking you may well have noticed Josh sooner … You should have never been on the road anyway. Your driving licence had expired months earlier.”
