It’s the start of the Rugby World Cup today and all this week the roof of The O2 in Greenwich has been a canvas for an impressive light-show displaying messages of support tweeted by England rugby fans using the hashtag #WearTheRose.
The space – the size of 10 rugby pitches, which is visible from space – has been used for thousands of fans to share their messages when England begin their Rugby World Cup campaign against Fiji on today.
Supporters will be part of the O2’s Rose Army of fans, and sports stars Jonny Wilkinson, Victoria Pendleton and James Anderson were among the first people to see their tweets in giant lights.
Ahead of the start of the tournament, soprano Laura Wright launched the projection with a patriotic burst of Jerusalem from the roof on the north Greenwich peninsula.
