A Thamesmead man is in a critical condition after a chip pan exploded into a fireball on Saturday.
It is thought the man poured cold water onto the flaming pan to extinguish flames, causing it to explode, the NewsShopper reported.
A woman and children escaped the fire, at a flat in Wolvercote Road. Around half of the flat was damaged.
