Do you ever walk down the street and continually find you get bumped into by people on their phones in a world of their own, writing a text message (probably full of acronyms – don’t get Kitty started on that!)?
To solve the problem, a university in America have come up with a great, or should that be gr8 (?) idea.
They have introduced text lanes!
giving students glued to their mobile phones a place to call their own: a designated lane for texting while walking.
The neon green lanes painted on the stairs to the gym at Utah Valley University were intended as a light-hearted way to brighten up the space and get students’ attention, Melinda Colton, a university spokesman, said on Thursday.
Student Chelsea Meza, 22, said the lanes touch on a cultural reality in an age of ubiquitous mobile phones.
“It’s kind of funny. You walk down the hallway and instead of saying ‘Hi’, everyone is walking and texting,” she said.
We at Maritime Radio wonder if they should be introduced in Greenwich town centre.
