Sidcup Library under new ownership

Bexley’s council-owned development company is the new owner of the current site of Sidcup Library.

The Council made the decision to transfer the land in Hadlow Road, Sidcup so it can be redeveloped appropriately, with the profits benefitting local people.

Work on the town’s new library and cinema on the site of the former Blockbuster store is progressing well. When it opens next year, the site in Hadlow Road will no longer be needed. BexleyCo will bring forward plans for the site which will be subject to planning permission and the usual consultation.

The Council is working with cinema operators Really Local Group and construction company Neillcott to build the town’s new three-screen cinema, library and nine flats. The development will provide a range of services, community activities and new homes in the heart of the town centre.

BexleyCo’s first scheme is at Old Farm Sidcup, where it is building 58 new homes and apartments. It recently opened show homes on the site and sales have been brisk.
