London Mayor Sadiq Khan has confirmed that Crossrail services from Woolwich will definitely open in summer 2021.
The service, which will link East and West London on what will be called the Elizabeth Line, had been due to open at the end of 2018 but has been beset with delays as the project is fitted into London’s already complex transport network.
The mayor spoke of his “anger” at the serious delays to the project, which have had a knock-on effect on nearby businesses, but has stated that since the installation of a new chairman he has now “got confidence in” the Crossrail team sticking to the new deadline.
