Tributes have been paid to a healthcare assistant from Thamesmead who has died of Covid-19 as her sister also battles the disease.
Esther Iyabode Akinsanya, who was 55, died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich where she had worked for 20 years. Her son, Sam had to say goodbye to his mother over Skype after her condition deteriorated. Sam described his mother as a “loving, caring, unbelievably generous person, someone who would help anyone and everyone”.
Mrs Akinsaya’s sister, Mary Idowu, who is also a nurse, remains in intensive care suffering from Covid-19.
