NHS Choir sings for the Queen

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir has appeared to millions around the world to close the Queen’s televised Christmas Day message.

The choir members – who have also has also released a Christmas single with Justin Bieber – were kept in the dark about their high-profile performance until the day it was recorded in mid-December. They were then whisked from their usual rehearsal space at Lewisham Hospital to Windsor Castle, where they recorded the carol “Joy to the World” in St George’s Hall.

The Queen, who is 94, used her traditional speech to praise the community spirit that has arisen this year, and to thank the “Good Samaritans” including NHS staff, who have worked selflessly to protect and help people.
