Tragic death of Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota and Andre Silva

Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota tragically passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning, alongside his younger brother Andre Silva in a car crash in Spain. The Liverpool forward was recently coming of the back of a highly successful season at both club and international level. He had just recently helped his club Liverpool to the Premier League title and his country, Portugal, to the Nations League title only several weeks earlier in the summer. Jota had signed for Liverpool from fellow Premier League club Wolves back in the summer of 2020 and in this time at Anfield won one Premier League title, one FA Cup, and two EFL Cups having also won the Championship title with Wolves. His younger Andre Silva was also a professional footballer with Portugese 2nd tier side Penafiel. The funeral of the two brothers took place in Portugal only three days after their deaths with the event being attended by close family, friends, and all of Diogo Jota's teammates at Liverpool FC and the coaching staff including manager Arne Slot.
