Arsenal Football Club: Consistency Without Silverware
Arsenal Football Club has been one of the most consistent club sides in England over the past few seasons, although this consistency has not yet been rewarded with silverware.
The Gunners have finished in 2nd place in each of the last three Premier League seasons:
-
2022/23 – 2nd behind Manchester City
-
2023/24 – 2nd behind Manchester City
-
2024/25 – 2nd behind Liverpool, finishing 10 points adrift
In the most recent 2024/25 season, Arsenal’s main issue was their inability to turn more of their 14 league draws into victories. Particularly frustrating were home draws against the likes of Everton, Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Aston Villa. The lack of a prolific striker ultimately proved costly in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
Cup Competitions
In domestic cup competitions, Arsenal fell short once again:
-
FA Cup: Knocked out in the third round at home by Manchester United on penalties
-
EFL Cup: Eliminated in the semi-finals by the eventual winners Newcastle United, losing 4–0 on aggregate over two legs
Champions League Highlights
Arsenal's most impressive displays this season came in the UEFA Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals. They were eventually knocked out by the tournament winners, Paris Saint-Germain.
The standout performance of the season was undoubtedly Arsenal’s 5–1 aggregate victory over 15-time Champions League winners Real Madrid, including a stunning 3–0 first leg win at the Emirates Stadium.
Summer Transfer Activity
This summer, Arsenal are in the process of signing Brentford midfielder Christian Nørgaard, with Thomas Partey set to leave the club at the end of his contract on 1st July.
The club have also been heavily linked with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, as they search for a clinical centre-forward capable of pushing them over the line in the Premier League title race next season.
