A tenant in Kidbrooke has been fined £768 after repeatedly breaching noise regulations and disturbing neighbours with loud music.
The case followed numerous complaints from local residents, who reported ongoing disruption from excessive noise at the property. Despite receiving warning letters from the council, the tenant continued to play loud music.
Council officers later visited the address and witnessed the disturbance firsthand, confirming the severity of the issue. As a result, an abatement notice was issued, formally warning the tenant that further breaches could lead to legal action.
However, the tenant failed to comply with the notice and breached its conditions on three separate occasions. This led to further enforcement action, with the council and police obtaining a warrant to enter the property. During the operation, officers seized speakers, televisions and other sound equipment believed to be causing the nuisance.
The tenant appeared in court on Thursday, 19 February, where they were prosecuted for breaching the abatement notice and fined £768.
A council spokesperson said the case demonstrates a firm stance against anti-social behaviour:
“This is a great example of us cracking down on anti-social behaviour. We take residents’ reports seriously and will always follow up with any concerns, taking legal action when necessary, to make sure everyone feels safe and secure in their home.”
Residents experiencing similar issues are encouraged to report noise disturbances to the council so that appropriate action can be taken.
