A new Post Office has opened in Woolwich, bringing essential postal services back to Powis Street for the first time since last year.

The branch at 102 Powis Street began serving customers on Friday, 30 January 2026. Trading as Woolwich Post Office, Stationers and Gift Shop, the store replaces the former Post Office counter, which closed in April 2025 following the closure of the WHSmith store on the same street.

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Greenwich Supports and Environmental Services, said the opening was an important milestone for the area.

“We are getting things done in Woolwich and the opening of the new Post Office marks one of many improvements to the area. Woolwich is one of our busiest areas and from parcels to passports, it is vital that people have a face-to-face service. As a councillor and a local resident, I wholeheartedly welcome its arrival.”

The new business is run by Manish Garg and his wife, Kriti Garg, who said they were aware of the strong local demand for the service.

“We know people are excited about the Post Office re-opening on Powis Street,” they said. “Our team is working hard to meet their expectations and provide the excellent service they deserve.”

The council supported the project by providing funding towards the shop’s fit-out and working closely with British Land to secure the premises and support job creation in the area.

The branch includes a modern, low-screened counter designed to improve accessibility. The Post Office also conducted consultations from 2025 to 2026 to gather feedback on accessibility before the opening.

The Woolwich Post Office is open seven days a week, from 9 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Saturdayand 11 am to 4 pm on Sundays, restoring a key service for residents and businesses in the town centre.
