An apartment block which was previously described as a 'mutant' tower and threatened with demolition, has been allowed to stay, subject to stringent conditions.
The tower at Mast Quay, on Woolwich Church Street, made headlines last year as Greenwich Council found the development to vary from the original planning position.
Now, the planning inspector has ruled its orange cladding must be removed and other changes be made to the building, or the original demolition order will stand.
Comer Homes, the company who built the site, comprising 204 apartments, now have three years to make the buildings compliant. The original phases of Mast Quay are unaffected.
The Comer Group is owned by Brian and Luke Comer, the latter has been banned from horse racing for three years after 12 of his horses tested positive for banned anabolic steroids in an "unprecedented" scandal in 2023. He was also fined a total of 85,000 euros and the 12 horses banned from running for a period of two years.
