Charlton Athletic have confirmed that a supporter has died after suffering a medical emergency during Saturday’s match against Portsmouth at The Valley.
Play was halted in the 12th minute as medical staff rushed to assist the fan in the stands. Despite immediate attention from Charlton personnel and first responders, the match was later postponed. The supporter was taken to hospital, where they sadly passed away.
In a statement, the club expressed its gratitude to everyone who helped during the incident, including staff, emergency responders, supporters inside the stadium and the Portsmouth players and staff, all of whom showed patience and understanding as events unfolded.
Charlton Athletic said the thoughts of everyone connected with the club are with the supporter’s family and friends at this “incredibly difficult time.”
