Major Incident declared as covid cases soar

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared a Major Incident across the city as covid-19 spreads out of control. Previously used during terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower disaster, the step means that special arrangements are in place and that emergency and public services may not be able to provide their usual level of response.

The leader of Greenwich Council, Danny Thorpe echoed the Mayor’s renewed calls for the public to stay at home, saying that nearly 1 in 3 people in Greenwich now has covid, and warning that “if things continue as they are our local services will not be able to cope”.
