Huge fire engulfs Erith industrial unit

A huge fire engulfed an industrial unit in Erith on Friday morning.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters are on the scene of the blaze at the unit on Church Manor way. It is understood the fire is on the ADM oilseed processing site. There are reports of three people suffering from injuries.

London Fire Brigade said: “the fire is now under control as of 12:08pm, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at an industrial unit on Church Manorway in Erith.

“Part of an oil seed processing plant was alight. Around 80 people evacuated before the Brigade arrived.

“Three men suffering from burns have been treated by London Ambulance Service crews and have been taken to hospital. Crews are expected to remain on scene for a number of hours.”

Operator of the site, ADM, said in a statement, “at 9am, an explosion occurred at its oilseed crushing plant in Erith.

“Three contractors who were working outside in an adjacent silo, suffered injuries.”
