Royal Parks have announced today they will close all eight parks they manage across London including Greenwich Park on Sunday due to high winds which are forecast from the Met Office. They state ‘In Liaison with our tree experts and Health and Safety team we have made this decision to ensure the safety of all park users including vehicle users and cyclists.
Royal Parks are home to over 170,000 trees spread across 5,000 acres with a significant population of ancient and veteran trees which are vulnerable in high winds.
Their twitter account says they will be monitoring the forecast closely over the next 24 hours and if there are any changes they will communicate these via their website and twitter account.
If the weather changes there may be another decision.
