Willow Weaving Workshop with Richard Vidal
February 15 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm GMT£35.00
Learn the craft of Willow Weaving, learn several different basic techniques to make your own indoor or outdoor creations. Richard grows several varieties of different colours of willow in Sussex. He has done lots of volunteer work in Community gardens such as Sydenham, Mycenae House and Royal Hill. Richard has also volunteered in creating living willow arches, igloos and tunnels in school playgrounds for Greenwich schools at Rachel Macmillan and the Robert Owen nurseries. He has supplied local willow craftsmen with a stall at Blackheath Farmers market for several years. Richard is a full time government lawyer drafting legislation for the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs. He is keen to branch into teaching basic willow weaving techniques so that anyone can soon learn a new craft in a calm relaxing atmosphere. Willow rods are very flexible and easy to mould and weave into interesting shapes and objects that you can take away from the course to display both indoors or in your garden. A variety of different coloured organically grown by Richard on the family farm in Sussex are all harvested, sorted and bundled by hand.
No weaving experience required for attending his workshop. If you have a pair of secateurs, scissors and garden string please bring (but there will be spare ones if you forget). On the workshop you will learn basic techniques so that you can choose to make one or more of your own creations that might include willow hearts, stars, nests, dragonfly or obelisk flower support The cost of the workshop is £35 per person, including all materials and tuition.
