Funding boost for Woolwich High Street

Woolwich is to receive a share of a £95 million fund to regenerate England’s Historic High Streets, it was announced yesterday.

Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone scheme will work with 69 struggling high streets from Tyne and Wear to Cornwall to restore historic buildings and create new cultural initiatives for local people.

Duncan Wilson, Historic England’s Chief Executive said that the ambitious regeneration project was “a challenge” but added:

“With our experience and track record, as well as the knowledge and passion of local councils, businesses and community groups our historic high streets can be thriving social hubs once more.”
