Eltham MP Clive Efford has spoken out in favour of cancelling Brexit. The recent EU elections saw the Labour party take a slim lead, overall in Greenwich, but with the anti-Brexit Liberal Democrats following closely behind.
Replying to a tweet by Shadow Chancellor John Mcdonnell, calling for a second referendum, Mr Efford went further, tweeting:
“People know that politicians mean Remain when they talk of going back to them with a second referendum. Europe took a beating last night and needs to change. We must be in there to shape the future. Then decide where next.”
But as well as a strong showing in Greenwich for the Liberal Democrats and their anti-Brexit stance, the EU elections also saw a significant proportion of the votes cast in the borough going to the Brexit Party, run by Nigel Farage, so it would appear that opinion in the area remains divided.
