South east London is preparing for a day-long event on community-led anti-racism activities in Thamesmead and the surrounding area in the early 1990s.
Activists, historians and community organisers will discuss the strong local response to the 1991 murder of a 15-year-old black boy by a group of racist men.
Amid the fears and tension provoked by the far-right British National Party, some 1,500-people from Thamesmead and nearby had marched on the BNP’s offices in Welling.
Saturday’s event will assess the context of the march and the relevance of its fallout to the present day.
