As London City Airport begins a 10-week public consultation on its expansion plans, campaigners in Greenwich and southeast London have questioned the logic of more weekend flights and millions more passengers.
The airport is located in Newham borough but flight noise can be heard in Greenwich. According to news reports, campaigners are concerned about the airport’s plans for flights after 1pm on Saturdays, as well as for more early-morning flights.
One Green Party London Assembly member reportedly described it as “an absolute disgrace” to expand flying during a climate emergency.
City Airport’s public consultation will include seven events across east London between July 12 and July 21 as well as pop-up events through August. Residents have until September 9 to make their views known online at consultation.londoncityairport.com.
