Each week, Ben Hopkinson looks back at a serious, crazy, and happy news story from the past week.
Serious News
Plans have been outlined to wrap huge video adverts throughout the tunnels along the Elizabeth Line.
TfL’s advertising partner, Global, wish to introduce “world-first immersive formats” throughout the walls and ceilings on the walkways. However, some are not keen on the idea as it will “bombard” commuters with advertisements, as said by Green member of the London Assembly, Caroline Russell.
There are also warnings that it could affect those that are neurodiverse as it could be too “sensory heavy”, as well as ruin the calming beautiful design of the stations – which also won the Stirling Prize for Architecture.
TfL will test and assess before they are introduced as they confirm that the idea is still in early development.
Crazy News
A kangaroo was found loose more than 10,000 miles away from its Australian home in Florida.
Authorities found the animal hopping down a county road and successfully captured it after calls were received by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The kangaroo was examined by a veterinarian and was found healthy and uninjured. It has since been transported to a facility with experience and knowledge of looking after the Australian animals.
The owner has not been identified as of yet, however.
Happy News
Deer have been brought back to Greenwich Park, after they were moved to Richmond Park back in 2021. Their initial move was so that they would not be disturbed during building works for community facilities.
A herd of eight fallow deer were seen “enjoying a renovated and extended deer paddock”, according to Royal Parks.
They have access to a nearby woodland and their natural habitat has been “enhanced with wildflower planting to support wildlife, including birds and pollinators”.
