Blackheath has become the latest Guy Fawkes fireworks night display to be called off amid virus-spreading fears.
The display on Blackheath, which is run by Lewisham Council, is usually one of the largest in London, but in a statement on Friday the council announced its cancellation this year saying that they understand the disappointment but that “the event attracts large crowds and the risk of spreading Covid-19 is too great”.
Displays at Danson Park, Bexley and in Southwark Park have already been called off, and the Mayor of London announced on Friday that the New Year’s display in Central London will also not take place this year.
