A vigil has been held in Bermondsey to remember a young man who died trying to save a woman from the River Thames last week.
20-year-old Jimi Olubunmi-Adewole was on his way back to South-East London from work at a central London restaurant last Saturday night, when he and another man saw a woman fall into the Thames at London Bridge and jumped in to save her. The woman and the other man were rescued by the Thames Coastguard, but Mr Olubunmi-Adewole could not be found. His body was discovered the next morning.
Family and friends of Jimi – who has been nominated for a police commissioner’s commendation – met in Bermondsey Spa Park on Friday night and released white balloons to remember him.
