Greenwich Councillors have revealed that they are considering a bid to become London’s Borough of Culture in 2021.
Councillors were told at a meeting on Thursday that following a visit to the current award holders Waltham Forest, Greenwich Council was now considering submitting a bid for the next competition when applications open in July.
The chosen 2021 Borough of Culture will be awarded funding by the Mayor’s office to put on cultural events which the Mayor hopes will “bring Londoners of all ages and backgrounds together” and “place culture firmly at the heart of local communities, exactly where it belongs”.
Although Greenwich has applied unsuccessfully for the award before, council officials have indicated that if they do decide to make a bid, they will work this time on an entirely new approach.
