A contraversial development which will see four new residential tower blocks, one of 36 storeys, built on Greenwich Peninsular has been narrowly approved by Greenwich council.
The scheme, Morden Wharf, which will be built on a former industrial site next to the Blackwall Tunnel entrance, has been opposed by many community and conservation groups for the changes it will make to the skyline of heritage Greenwich, with some arguing that the new towers will be so out of scale with their surroundings they will dominate iconic views such as that from the Royal Observatory.
One fifth of the flats in the development are planned to be available to those on the council renting waiting list and there will also be some shared ownership properties, as well as high-value luxury homes.
